My new book, Money-Making Mom, hits stores November 3 and we’re currently working on putting the final touches on it as well as starting all of the fun marketing projects for it.
Every time you release a new book, your publisher wants you to get endorsements for it. Basically, this means that you ask other people who are well-known or have credentials to write something that plugs your book and encourages people to buy it.
They then print these in the front of the book, on the cover, and use them in marketing materials. This helps to sell books, helps bookstores be willing to buy it, and helps the author (sometimes) get media opportunities.
It’s also one of my least favorite things in the world to do.
Seriously. I pretty much break out in cold sweat sending those emails to people asking for endorsements.
Why? Because I hate making asks. No matter how hard I try to make sure the recipient knows there is no obligation and that whatever they respond has no bearing on our friendship and that I know that they get hundreds of requests and that I’m sorry to bother them… I still hate asking.
I may have a little bit of anxiety surrounding the endorsement asks. Just a tad bit.
